Permaculture Design Certificate Course With Lusi Alderslowe

Gain an internationally recognised certificate through this unique course. As well as the core modules necessary for qualification, the course will be full of hands-on experiential workshops, a visit to another local permaculture site, campfires, community and deep creativity... all in the beautiful woodlands of Cornucopia.

Permaculture is...

...a holistic design system for sustainable living, creating systems for minimum effort and maximum effect. The word was coined in the 1970s but is based on indigenous practices for many generations, as well as modern tools and techniques – making the best of the new and the old to design and create sustainable systems in the present day.

Originally focussing on low intensity food production by mimicing natural eco systems, Permaculture has developed exponentially since it's birthing in Australia by Bill Mollison 50 odd years ago. It follows developments in the sciences and thus continually evolves with our knowledge base, leap forwards in our understanding of the natural environment are reflected in this up to date PDC bringing you the very best information in both the core modules and specialist workshops.

Course content:

The Permaculture Design Course is a 72 hour course which covers:

  • The Permaculture Design Process (SADIMET), and the theory and practice of different design tools from mapping to implementation. This includes different opportunities to use the design tools and create an entire design in a small group.

  • Permaculture ethics and principles and their application

  • Learn in detail about each of the essential themes of soil, water, plants & trees, growing your own food, the built environment, resource use, and social systems and contexts. Each one is explored in detail with a combination of student research and sharing from all participants.

Course structure

This course offers theoretical underpinnings of ethics and principles, techniques and practical elements with workshops such as natural building, composting and fermenting which are all about learning through doing. There's no better way to learn about permaculture than by whole body learning - actually creating design elements with the help of knowledgeable workshop leaders. We will take a day to visit another permaculture site on Guernsey, this will help inspire you to see alternative approaches to permaculture...

  •  It is a 72 hour course. This is composed of 12 days with a day off on the weekend of the 11th.

  • The sessions will be fully interactive with lots of practical workshops and tours of permaculture places. Usually based on doing theory in the morning then practical workshops in the afternoons.

  • Site visit to a local permaculture project to meet the leader there and gain more insights and inspiration.

I have really enjoyed the course and the fellow course-mates who share a similar interest/passion for plants, ecology and permaculture. JB

I came on the course to learn about being more self-sufficient on a gardening level but came away with so much more, with a much bigger perspective and a renewed sense of how I can make a difference with each action I take. Really glad I did the course, Thankyou!

This has been fantastic for learning to develop land in a regenerative way. Mathew, avid gardener.

Before doing the PDC I had a feeling like I already knew a lot about ecology and nature, during the course I really was taken far beyond the limits of my previous understanding and feel a much deeper connection with natural processes.
